Detroit Art.
Made Personal.

Custom tattoos, professional piercings, original art and unforgettable creative experiences in Detroit.

The Studio

An artist studio
that happens to tattoo.

Detroit Ink Spot is a body-art studio, a piercing studio and a working gallery on W. McNichols. The work that leaves here is drawn for one person — built around your idea, your placement and your story, not lifted off a wall.

One-on-one from the start

Every appointment begins with a consultation with the artist who will do the work — no middle-man, no guesswork.

Experienced hands

A working crew of artists across black and grey, colour, lettering, portraiture and professional piercing.

A room that welcomes you

Professional, clean and genuinely friendly — whether it is your first piece or your fifteenth.

Rooted in Detroit

The city is in the name and on the walls. Detroit culture and creativity run through everything made here.

What We Do

Work made to order.

Tattooing, piercing, illustration and a room you can book. Pricing is settled with your artist in person — never guessed at online.

The Crew

The people holding the machine.

Every artist here works to their own strengths. Find the hand that fits your idea, then ask for them by name.

How It Works

From idea
to appointment.

Every piece starts with a conversation, not a deposit. Here is the whole path, start to finish.

  1. Choose an artist or a service

Look through the artists and the work, and pick the person you want to sit with. If you are not sure who fits the idea, say so — the studio will point you to the right artist.

  2. Send a consultation request

Tell us what you are thinking: the idea, roughly where it goes, how big, colour or black and grey, and any reference you already have. Attach images if they help.

  3. Sit down one-on-one

Every appointment starts with a one-on-one consultation with your artist. You will work through placement, size, references, session count and availability together.

  4. Get your quote from the artist

Quotes are given in person, by the artist doing the work, once they have seen the idea and the placement. Nothing is priced over the phone or by guesswork.

  5. Leave a deposit to hold the date

A deposit secures the appointment in the book. Once it is down, the time is yours and the artist begins preparing the drawing.

Before You Book

The house rules, plainly.

No small print and no surprises — this is exactly how appointments, deposits and changes are handled.

Deposits are non-refundable
A non-refundable deposit is required to schedule any appointment. The amount depends on the estimated cost of your project and is set by your artist at the consultation. The deposit comes off the final price of the work.
Quotes are given in person
Pricing is settled face to face at the consultation, after the artist has seen the idea, the placement and the size. The studio does not quote work sight unseen.
Rescheduling
Appointments can be rescheduled with at least 24 hours' notice. Give the studio a call as soon as you know — the earlier the notice, the easier the date is to move.
No-call, no-show
Missing an appointment without calling results in the loss of your deposit. Booking the time again means starting with a new deposit.
One person per practitioner
Appointments are one-on-one: please plan to come to your session on your own so each artist can work with their client without a crowded floor.
Age and identification

Editable placeholder — confirm the studio's exact age and identification requirements — including accepted ID and the policy for under-18s — before this site goes live.

Deposit amounts are set by your artist at the consultation and depend on the estimated cost of the work, so no figure is published here.

Private Hire

Host your event at Detroit Ink Spot.

The studio opens up as a venue — a room with art on the walls and a point of view, for people who would rather not book a blank hall.

  • Art showcasesHang a body of work in a room already built around art.
  • Brand activationsA Detroit backdrop with character for launches and pop-up moments.
  • Photo & video shootsEditorial, lookbook and music video work in a styled interior.
  • Listening partiesPlay the record for the room it was made for.
  • Private celebrationsBirthdays, milestones and gatherings that want somewhere with a point of view.
  • Networking eventsCreative and community meet-ups in a space that starts conversations.
  • Workshops & pop-upsTeaching, trading and short-run retail residencies.

Every request is reviewed for availability, fit, capacity and venue requirements. Sending a request does not confirm a date, and not every event type can be accommodated.

Word of Mouth

Read what people actually said.

Rather than hand-pick quotes, the studio points you straight at its Google profile — reviews, photographs and all, unedited.

Editable placeholder — no reviews are reproduced on this site yet. To feature real ones, copy them verbatim from the Google Business Profile with the reviewer's name as shown, or connect the Google Places API. Never paraphrase a review or invent a star rating.

Ratings and reviews are held on the studio's Google Business Profile. They are not copied here, so nothing on this page can drift out of date or misrepresent what customers said.

Aftercare

Healing is half the work.

How a piece settles depends on the two weeks after you leave. The studio's full instructions for tattoos and for piercings are here.

Tattoo Aftercare

Your artist will bandage the tattoo before you leave. From that point the healing is yours to manage — the first two weeks decide how the piece settles.

  • Remove the Saniderm or D-lize bandage within 12 hours.
  • Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and an antibacterial soap such as Dial, Safeguard or Cetaphil, using your hands rather than a cloth.
Full instructions

External Piercing Aftercare

External piercings need consistent, gentle cleaning over roughly two months. Some swelling and discharge is normal early on.

  • Clean the piercing twice a day for six to eight weeks.
  • Use an antibacterial spray such as Band-Aid, H2Ocean or Red Magic, or an antibacterial soap such as Dial or Dove.
Full instructions

Oral Piercing Aftercare

Oral piercings heal in the mouth, so rinsing after anything that passes through it matters more than anything else.

  • Rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash three to four times a day.
  • Rinse in particular after eating, drinking and smoking.
Full instructions

This page is general aftercare guidance, not medical advice. Healing varies from person to person. If you develop spreading redness, significant swelling, heat, severe or worsening pain, pus, a fever, or any symptom that concerns you, contact the studio and seek advice from a doctor or another appropriate healthcare professional.
